NEWTON TWP, Ohio - Newton Township trustees heard from the community Monday night on what new development they want to see in the township.

The comprehensive plan unveiled with the help of YSU includes further development of the Mahoning River Corridor with more recreational activities and expanding public utilities with a 40% surcharge.

Although some people say they want to keep the township rural, the plans will help them gather some grants.

THIS PLAN WILL NOT ONLY HELP US IN THE FUTURE DECIDE WHERE WE WANT TO GO, IF IT'S OBVIOUSLY STAYING STATUS QUO AS THE PLAN SHOWS, BUT IT WILL ALSO HELP SECURE FUNDING MAYBE FOR A BRIDGE THAT GOES OUT, OR A ROAD THAT GOES OUT. OUR ROADS ARE AGING, AND THIS GRANT'S GOing to HELP US SECURE THAT FUNDING TO UPGRADE THOSE ROADS," said Township Trustee John Nemet.

Township trustees will vote on the final draft of the plan at their next meeting at the end of the month.
