Mahoning gets K-9 to assist human trafficking task force

MAHONING COUNTY, Ohio - The Mahoning County Sheriff's Office has a new K-9 to sniff out electronics that could be used to conceal things like child pornography.
Bubba is a 2-year-old black lab trained to find devices such as SIM cards in cellphones, thumb drives, computers or other places where people can hide illicit material. Bubba was trained in Indiana and his costs were covered by a non-profit called Operation Underground Railroad.
"Their main goal is to combat against human trafficking both in America and around the world," Deputy Jeff Rich said. "So they will sponsor these dogs, pay for the training and then give them to police departments free of charge."
Bubba is one of only a few dozen electronic detection dogs in the country and will be assigned to the Mahoning County Sheriff's Human Trafficking Task Force.
