Suspect in Youngstown bar shooting indicted on murder charge

YOUNGSTOWN - A man charged in a March 4 shooting death outside a Southside Youngstown bar was indicted on a murder charge Thursday by a Mahoning County grand jury.
Erik Jenkins, 25, is charged with felonious assault and murder in the shooting death of 34-year-old Thomas C. Williams and wounding of the facility security guard, Montell Scott at the bar, formerly known as The Coconut Grove.
At the time police said more than a dozen rounds were fired in the shooting by both Jenkins and return fire by Scott.
In a preliminary hearing in Youngstown Municipal Court, it was stated that Jenkins was also wounded in that same shooting, being shot multiple times in the back.
Police do not know if the rounds fired by Jenkins or Scott killed Williams.
Ballistics from the two different guns used by Jenkins and Scott are under investigation to determine what kind of bullet killed Williams.
Jenkins turned himself into police after he was announced as a suspect following the March 4 shooting.
