Mineral Ridge mom faces endangering charge after child found wandering
A mom is facing a child endangering charge after her toddler was found wandering in the parking lot of a Mineral Ridge store.
Cheyanne Marie Busse, 22, is facing the charge after her 3-year-old boy was found in the parking lot of the Dollar General on State Route 46, according to a report from the Weathersfield Township Police Department.
The report stated someone pulled into the parking lot around 8:30 a.m. and found the boy who appeared to be cold. The boy only had a diaper on and was carrying a blanket. The man went into the store with the child and called 911.
Police say the boy was not able to tell them where he lived because of how young he was. The officers then called an ambulance because the child was cold. They also contacted children's services. The child was ultimately taken to Akron Children's Hospital, the report stated.
An officer later went to a nearby childcare facility and showed an employee a picture of the child. The employee directed them to a home on Depot Street. Here, they spoke with Busse who said she woke up at 8 a.m. and checked on the child who was still sleeping, the report stated. She then went back to bed.
Police noted that there were two grandparents in the house. The grandmother said that she was sleeping because she worked the midnight turn, and the grandfather said, "Everybody was tired because they stayed up and cleaned the house," according to the report.
Police also said the house was in "total disarray."
Officials issued Busse a summons for endangering children.
The child is now staying with relatives.
