The Greatest Golfer Junior events got underway Saturday at Reserve Run Golf Course in Poland, with the Joe Dickey Electric junior two-player shootout.

Over 30 players hit the course for the best-ball event, and for the first time, the junior participants were paired with an adult relative for the duration of the one-day event. Some parings included father-son, father-daughter and even a brother-brother match-up.

The best score between the tandem is counted toward the standings.

Chaz Ekoniak of Struthers and Luke Eyster each shot 70 to lead, with Ekoniak winning in a back-nine scorecard playoff. For full results, visit The Greatest Golfer website. Click here or log onto greatestgolfer.com.

The Greatest Golfer has 21 total events scheduled across 19 golf courses throughout this summer. It hopes to reach goals of 500 golfers for the summer and hopes to raise $60,000 for charity and give away $20,000 in prizes.

Todd Franko, director of The Greatest Golfer, says the new junior/adult paring event was a good way to kick things off.

"That's been kind of a cool addition," he said. "Watching some of the veteran bucks of Valley golf join in with their youthful partners so we got some two-player events going on, and the normal Joe Dickey junior stuff going on."
