YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Some people living in an area of Youngstown are not receiving mail at their homes following a dog attack.

The carrier is refusing to deliver to some homes in the neighborhood because of an unrestrained dog in the area.

The dog was left untethered back in March and attacked a USPS carrier that was completing her route.

The dog's owner told 21 News that it was just a simple accident.

Following the incident, the carrier was off work for a while while she recovered.

The dog's owner and a handful of surrounding neighbors say they now have to go to the post office to pick up their mail.

The United States Postal Service's policy regarding dog attacks states "if a carrier feels threatened by a dog or if a dog is loose or unleashed, the owner may be asked to pick up mail at a Post Office until the carrier is assured the pet has been restrained."

Residents say they are unsure when mail will be delivered to their homes again.

"I think once the situation is rectified and the dog is not on the property anymore, I don't see why the post office would not resume directly sending mail to residents' homes again," said 7th Ward Councilwoman Basia Adamzak.

In a statement, the Youngstown Post office told 21 News they look forward to restoring services as soon as the issue of the "aggressive" dog roaming free is addressed.
