AUSTINTOWN TWP., Ohio - The musical chair-like closings of Kirk and Turner Roads in Austintown will continue as crews work to renovate Ohio Turnpike overpasses in the area.

The Mahoning County Engineer plans to extend the current closure of Kirk Road just east of Turner Road until Friday, June 18, 2021, so Ruhlin Construction can finish pier construction just past the bike trail.

In addition, plans are in the works to once again close South Turner Road, just north of Kirk Road from June 21 through July 2 to complete structural steelwork on the overpass.

The bridge decks are being replaced, rehabilitated, and widened on both mainline bridges.

Work on the $9.3 million project is scheduled to be completed by July 30.

This isn't the only challenge facing drivers in Austintown this summer.

Work continues on resurfacing Mahoning Avenue, limiting traffic to one lane in each direction along the business district.
