WARREN, Ohio -  A court summons has been issued to a woman accused of leaving a dog tied up in a truck in Warren for several days without food or water.

Warren Animal Control Officer John Onatz says he was called to the parking lot of the abandoned St. Joseph Riverside Hospital on Tod Avenue early Friday, where he said he found the dog’s leash tied to the gearshift of a U-Haul truck with Arizona license plates.

Although the windows were slightly opened, Onatz says it was too hot for the pit bull, which he believes had been there for a couple of days without food or water.

Onatz says he and a woman managed to shove some pizza through the truck windows until they could open the door.

Fifty-year-old Stephanie DeLoach, staying at a nearby woman’s shelter, came up to Onatz and said the dog belonged to her but had nowhere to take it.

DeLoach, who has been charged with animal abandonment, signed ownership of the dog over to the Trumbull County Dog Pound, which is providing veterinary care and looking for someone to adopt the dog.
