It was just a few weeks ago when 55 year old Fran McDaniel, a mom of four, grandmother to two and nurse practitioner at Dr. Rajendra Koriala in Boardman, took a road trip down to Jacksonville, Florida to move her daughter, Kelsey into her new apartment.

Fran was hospitalized in Florida shortly after getting COVID-19. Doctors continuously had to increase her oxygen levels then went to a BiPAP.

"The BiPAP was helping her," said Kassidy Little, Fran's daughter to 21 News. "She was getting better. Her oxygen saturation went all the way up to 97%. It was a steady 97% so, it was excellent."

After a week in the hospital, Fran passed away August 10 from a blood clot in her heart. Her family was shocked.

"I let out a blood curdling scream and just lost it," Little said. "It was completely unexpected."

Kassidy and Kelsey describing their mom as a light to everyone who met her and the neighborhood mom where her door was always open.

"She will be remembered as a loving, unconditionally loving person," said Kelsey McDaniel, Fran's daughter. "She did not care who or what you were. She loved you and you felt that love."

Fran's daughters told 21 News her birthday fell on Christmas Day. She would have a countdown to the day every year, starting December 26.

Kassidy and Kelsey referred to Fran and their hero, who "never left them go without." "She sacrificed so others could have and others could become who they want to be," McDaniel said.

McDaniel said there's thousands of people in the Boardman community and beyond who have been inspired by Fran.

"I would tell her thank you," McDaniel said. "I would just tell her she was the homie. My mom was my best friend. She was the epitome of an angel."

Fran's family has created a GoFundMe to support her funeral costs.
