Summer may be over, but that didn't stop Bill Eaton from making the most of Monday's nice weather at Berlin Lake.

"Today we're breaking down camp...and we've really enjoyed our stay here," he said.

What he didn't know is that he can help shape the future of the lake and grounds for many summers to come.
Monday, the Army Corps of Engineers opened up public comment for a draft of its master plan for the lake.
The Corps made the draft from initial public comment gathered in 2018.
It's overdue too - they're normally done every 20 to 25 years. The last one was released in 1984.

The most recent draft includes deadlines for establishing regular dam tours, upgrading security features, protecting endangered species and controlling invasive ones.

Eaton was one of a few folks we talked to about what they'd like to see at berlin lake on their next trip.

"Even though it didn't affect my ability to catch fish last night, it would be cool to know when the water's high and when it's low," he said.

Donna Carman added "people that have RVs and travel trailers, we definitely need more RV sites, and then it would be nice to have better access to the lake...better shoreline, there's lots of rocks down there, it's kind of dangerous."

The Corps tells 21 News most of the public comments have to do with the water level and how often it's drained and when. That's not part of this master plan, but you will be able to sound off on that in a few months.

"The deviation of the water control and water levels are being addressed in a separate process," said Heather Wood, a Natural Resource Specialist with the Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District.

For now, the public comment on the master plan draft runs until October 27th.
