GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio - A truck driver from Columbiana was not injured in a traffic accident that claimed the life of another man and shut down a major highway in the Cleveland area.

State Troopers say a Honda Civic went out of control along the westbound lanes of Interstate 480 on Thursday and was struck by a semi-tractor trailer near the Valley View Bridge in Garfield Heights.

The Honda then struck the concrete median divider, claiming the life of the driver, 65-year-old James Hess of Garfield Heights.

William Nagy, 57, Columbiana, who was driving the truck, wasn’t injured.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Interstate 480 West was closed for two-and-a-half hours while crews worked to remove the vehicles and clear the roadway of crash debris.
