FBI crime statistics indicate the city of Warren has double the state average of rape crimes.

The detective there is investigating eight unrelated sex-related crimes reported just this week.

At least four are alleged rapes occurring from September through November.

One report indicates a 14-year-old was assaulted by a male she knew while others are unclear.

The time of day these incidents happened ranged from 5 in the morning to 9 at night, all taking place in residential areas on Commerce Avenue NW, Rex Boulevard, Hamilton Street SW and Adelaide Avenue SE.

Jennifer Grey, Social Services and Development Officer of COMPASS said in general, solving sexual assault crimes is extremely complex.

"You have to consider who their assailants are, the totality of the circumstances," Grey said, "How and what can be used for evidence."

Grey said sometimes victims are not able to come forward in a way that can provide evidence or useful material for prosecution.

"Believing victims is key to the whole piece," she said, "When somebody tells you they've been sexually assaulted, believing them and not questioning them."

The recent sex crimes in Warren remain under investigation.

Grey reminds the Valley there are resources out there and to seek help if you or someone you know is a victim of sexual assault.
