The Mahoning County Commissioners continue making moves spending American Rescue Plan money.

They've handed out funds to help nonprofits and small businesses but their largest amount yet, $4.5 million dollars will go toward replacing revenue.

The money counts as revenue they would have seen but didn't, under the assumption that the pandemic caused the county to lose it.

A treasury guidance calculation tool showed that the county did not reach their calculated growth for the year of 2020, therefore allowing them to allocate the $4.5 million dollars to make up the difference.

Of that money, two and half million dollars have already been set aside.

"They're putting $500,000 towards CDB projects," said Audrey Tillis, county administrator for the Mahoning County Board of Commissioners. "Add 500 thousand to that and that will support local governments applications that come in," she said.

Another $1.5 million dollars will go toward a cash advance for road replacement projects, leaving $2 million dollars still unassigned.

"The board, Anthony, Carol and myself have always taken a very conservative approach with respect with funding," said Mahoning County Commissioner David Ditzler. "And we're not going to allocate the additional $2 million dollars because right now it's not critical that it goes into a specific need today," he said.

Ditzler tells 21 News this will give the commissioners the ability to allow the funds to carry over into 2022 and decide where it could be used best.
