YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Youngstown City School Board is currently searching for a new superintendent in light of the district's current CEO potentially leaving for the Akron School Board.

At a meeting Tuesday night, the board approved a resolution to start the search for a new superintendent once the CEO position is eliminated in July of 2022.

The board will then be able to regain control of the district. If current CEO, Justin Jennings leaves the district before July, the school could have the option to hire a new CEO for the remainder of the time before local control begins.

Jennings was present at the meeting and received a $10,000 bonus as part of his contract. Jennings gave his entire bonus to the bus drivers, bus aides and kitchen staff in the district, saying that they are "the backbone of the district."

21 News attempted to speak with Jennings regarding the potential job in Akron, but Jennings tells us he cannot comment at this time because they are still discussing salary and contract negotiations.
