Boardman Trustees to discuss neighborhood road resurfacing, rating

BOARDMAN, Ohio - The Boardman Township Board of trustees will be meeting Monday night at 5:30 for a regular meeting. One of the topics being discussed deals with potential road resurfacing and rating.
According to the agenda for Monday night's meeting, a movement will be discussed to adopt a resolution to hire engineering service company, Tetra Tech to evaluate pavement throughout the city.
Road Superintendent, Marilyn Kenner tells 21 News that the company would drive down all neighborhood roads and rate them. They would be looking out for potholes, cracks and rutting.
Once they are done with that, they would plan which roads need resurfacing based on their ratings. The decision of which neighborhood roads get repaired would be left up to locals.
The Mahoning County Engineer and County Commissioners would use some of the funds from the sales tax increase that went into effect during the last election to fund the resurfacing in the future.
As for when the resurfacing starts, it would all depend on the funds. Kenner says that the sales tax alone cannot cover every neighborhood road and that they are also dependent on grant money from the Ohio Public Works Commission, as well as gasoline taxes.
Kenner says the gasoline taxes specifically could be difficult due to the rise in electric vehicles and that the grants are also very competitive and sales tax revenue will be shared with other townships in the County.
A total of 144 miles of road would be inspected and rated.
