Tim Ryan holds hearing on Capitol security improvements since insurrection

WASHINGTON - After a little over a year since the 2021 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol Building, a hearing was held Tuesday to review changes made to policing at the Capitol.
Congressman Tim Ryan, who serves as the Chairman of the House Legislative Branch Appropriations Subcommittee, held the hearing on Capitol Security.
The hearing highlighted the upgrades made to Capitol security since January 6, 2021.
Among the upgrades are $300 million for windows, doors and new security cameras and $70.7 million for U.S. Capitol Police salaries, equipment and other expenses related to the insurrection.
"How we remember and respond will determine how we collectively learn from the trials and mistakes that day. As we move forward, we do not want to fall into the trap of preparing to fight the last war," Ryan said.
$1.5 million in damage was done to the Capitol during the attack and 140 police officers were assaulted.
