WEATHERSFIELD TWP., Ohio -  Fire departments from surrounding communities were called out late Monday morning to battle flames at a home in Weathersfield Township.

The first call came in just before 11 a.m. to a home on the 1500 block of Payne Street, which is just off Route 46.

The first firefighters to arrive reported smoke coming from the garage and the home.

Other departments including Austintown, Lordstown and McDonald were called to help and bring in tanker trucks after it was discovered that a fire hydrant was frozen.

Officials say the fire started in a detached garage and neared a home where a woman and her two dogs were inside.

The woman and her pets were able to get out safely. Her two sons were not home at the time.

Firefighters say neighbors had to knock on the windows and doors of the home to alert the woman to the spreading flames.

A wood-burning stove is believed to have caused the blaze.
