Two men remain held in the Mercer County Jail on $500,000 bond each after state police say they were caught driving on Interstate 80 carrying nearly 9 pounds of fentanyl worth an estimated $600,000.

Members of the State Police Shield interdiction union say they found 4 kilograms of the drug and a gun after pulling over a Ford Focus for a traffic violation in Wolf Creek Township Wednesday afternoon.

Two Oklahoma City, Oklahoma men, 23-year-old Arturo Gutierrez and 19-year-old Julian Espanosa-Garcia, were arraigned before a district magistrate on drug possession and firearm charges.

In addition to the $500,000 bond set by the court, jail officials tell 21 News that the Department of Homeland Security is detaining the suspects because they are illegal immigrants.

Another court hearing is scheduled for later this month.
