Perhaps the only thing more shocking and upsetting than Bob Saget's sudden passing is what we learned about what caused it.
An autopsy showed the beloved actor and comedian died of a brain bleed after hitting his head before he went to sleep.

"Traumatic brain injury can occur with any fall, any hit to the head or any sudden jolt such as a car accident," says Dr. Penelope Mashburn of Trumbull Regional Medical Center's trauma unit says age can play a role in how serious a seemingly small ding to the head can be.

"The older we get, the more the brain shrinks in the cranium," she says. "So there'll be more of an opening to those areas."

Blood thinners and other medications can increase that risk too.
As for kids - a child who's agitated, not playing or is especially tired should be checked out at the hospital.
But no matter your age, doctors say you need to have someone checking on you for at least a day or two.

"Try not to just stick it out at home," Dr. Mashburn said. "Going to sleep after a brain injury is not a good idea...if you feel any dizziness, nausea, confusion, if you've passed out, please go to the nearest emergency room."

Dr. Kene Ugokwe, chief neurosurgeon at St. Elizabeth Youngstown agrees, and believes that if Saget hadn't gone to sleep, he'd have likely survived.

"He could've been able to say 'hey, I can't move my arm the way I'm used to, or my speech is a bit altered or I have a really bad headache', and been able to seek some medical attention," Dr. Ugokwe said.
