Trumbull County officials prepare for potentially 'major' flooding

"We're kind of used to this," says Trumbull County EMA director John Hickey.
The folks who live along the Mahoning river in Leavittsburg know the drill.
But this drill presents a more unusual set of circumstances.
"We're definitely going to see some flooding, some significant flooding," said Warren Twp. fire chief Joe Natali.
An inch or more of rain, a thick melting snow pack, and huge clumps of ice jamming up rivers makes the predictable flooding woes in this part of the Valley a lot less so.
"The one thing we're doing different this time...we're including the Trumbull County Planning Commission, the building department," said Hickey. "They are the ones who will have to go in, if we do have damage, they'll go in and do their assessment for allowing people back in."
One area Warren Twp. fire officials tell us they're keeping a close eye on is Meadowbrook Drive, where they say the water could crest as high as 16 feet. They're urging everyone who lives along that street to evacuate Thursday night, but crews are also prepared to respond in case folks don't.
"We have our boat and our dry suits ready...but the water temperature's going to be cold and we can only do so much in the water at any given time, and we might not be able to get to you right away," Natali said.
One resident told 21 News he and some of his neighbors do plan to evacuate - suggesting this drill may in fact not be like all the others.
