YOUNGSTOWN - YSU changes mask rule for outside classrooms
Youngstown State University announced they have altered their campus masking requirements for students and staff.
The updated protocol allows students to remove their masks while in indoor campus areas. However, students will still be required to mask while in classrooms or laboratories. This update is effective immediately.
In an email sent to students Thursday, the university cited a declining number of COVID-19 cases and campus and in the surrounding community as the reason for the change.
The email notes social distancing is still encouraged when possible.
YSU mandated masks back in August, after an online survey of campus community members and a protest by faculty.
