Violence in the city of Youngstown on the rise again

When the weather begins to heat up, Youngstown police tell 21 News, so does city violence, and children are being caught in the middle.
On Monday, a drive-by shooting on South Evanston Avenue wounded a ten-year-old girl.
Officers say the child was not the target, and they have several ideas on who the gunfire was intended for.
There are leads, but no one in custody, and the ten-year-old girl is said to be in stable condition.
This incident is similar to one that happened seven months ago when the life of ten-year-old Persayus Davis May was cut short after she was struck by gunfire.
Similarly and more recently, three-month-old Tariq Morris was caught in the crossfire when a vehicle he was in was pelted with gunfire, killing him and his parents.
21 News reached out to the Youngstown police chief and mayor for comment but did not hear back.
City council members say they're fed up with the recurring violence and are asking the community to step up again.
"Our community, we can't tolerate this. if you permit it, you promote it," said 4th Ward Councilman Mike Ray. "If you know people are doing these kinds of behaviors, we need to speak up and tell people we are not going to tolerate this in our community anymore because the majority of people wanna live here and wanna live safely. Just take a moment and pause. You don't have to reach for a gun to solve every situation," he said.
The shooting currently remains under investigation.
