Niles man to be sentenced for child rape

WARREN, Ohio - Sentencing is scheduled on May 24 for a Niles man found guilty of repeatedly raping an underage girl.
According to Assistant Prosecutor Diane Barber, a jury in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court deliberated an hour-and-a-half Thursday before returning a guilty verdict on all ten counts against 30-year-old Joshua Barnes.
Barnes was indicted in September on five counts of rape, two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, two counts of providing liquor to an underage person, and interference with custody.
Barnes could be sentenced to life in prison.
According to the indictment, the incidents occurred as early as January 2019.
Court documents say the victim was between the ages of 10 and 12 at the time of the crimes.
The indictment says Barnes enticed, kept, or harbored the juvenile in August 2021 and gave her alcohol in December 2020 and the summer of 2021.
