YOUNGSTOWN -

A group of Valley breweries, bars, and bands helped raise thousands of dollars for the people of war-torn Ukraine.

The “United for Ukraine Rock n’ Raffle” took place last week at Westside Bowl on Mahoning Avenue in Youngstown.

Westside Bowl went to social media to share news of the successful fundraising effort. They said the event raised $18,000 and wanted to thank everyone who donated and performed.

Seventeen bands were featured at the event, along with a Chinese auction of donated items from local artists, breweries, and vendors.

The bands donated their time and performed for free, allowing 100% of event ticket sales to be donated to three charity organizations helping Ukraine: World Central Kitchen, The United Help Ukraine, and Army SOS.

The effort was  organized by local artist Royce Umberger, as well as musicians Nate Chizmar, and Pat Majernik

In addition, Birdfish Brewing Company, Noble Creature Cask House, and Modern Methods breweries collaborated to create a special beer to help the fundraising effort  and Yarian Quality Malts donated malt for the beer to help cover ingredient cost.
