A mom and her boyfriend indicted for the death of a Youngstown child are being sentenced Thursday afternoon.

Thirty-five-year-old Sharday Bing Dixon and 29-year-old Derek Carter have hearings before Mahoning County Common Pleas Judge Anthony D’Apolito after pleading guilty earlier to charges related to the death of two-year-old Sebali Bing Dixon.

Bing Dixon pleaded guilty to permitting child abuse and involuntary manslaughter. She has been sentenced to 20 years.

Prosecutors were expected to seek a 22-year sentence for Bing-Dixon. Her attorneys argued for fifteen years.

Carter pleaded guilty to child endangering. He was sentenced to four years in prison.

According to the coroner's office, the child died from internal bleeding due to lacerations caused by a crushed abdomen from blunt force trauma over a period of time.

Both were originally charged with murdering the two-year-old.

It was in October of 2018 on Dennick Avenue on the Northside of Youngstown when Youngstown Detectives say the two-year-old became unresponsive, and the child's mother called for an ambulance.

The two-year-old also had older injuries, including a partially healed leg fracture.

In 2017, the baby had a significant head injury that required a shunt.
