A suspect that crashed into a Fairfield Township pond and then took off on foot is now in custody.

According to police, 34 year-old Jonathan Weaver has been booked into the Columbiana County Jail on charges that include failure to comply, resisting arrest and driving under suspension.

Det. Sgt. Brett Grabman says further charges are expected once lab results for suspected drugs are returned.

At about noon on Thursday, the sheriff's department was involved in a pursuit.

Officials say when speeds exceeded 95 mph the chase was called off. Shortly after, the suspect crashed into a pond near the Trickling Spring Country Store on Route 558. That's when the suspect allegedly took off on foot into a nearby wooded area.

Pictures from the scene show the vehicle partially submerged in the water.

Authorities caught up with the suspect, who they say had called someone to pick him up.

The suspect allegedly had drugs and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. Including 37 grams of suspected crack cocaine, 54 grams of suspected methamphetamine, and 2 grams of suspected fentanyl.

At this point, the driver of the getaway vehicle is not facing charges.
