Grants to strengthen Ohio food supply chain awarded to 7 local businesses

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The state of Ohio is taking additional steps to strengthen the local meat supply chain.
Governor Mike DeWine awarded $15 million to Ohio meat processors to reduce the state's reliance on out-of-state companies.
Seventy-five Ohio processors will split the money to help them expand capacity to meet the growing demand for processing services.
Seven meat processors in the Mahoning Valley are receiving grants. A list of the facilities can be found below.
- Leslie Farm Custom Meat Processing (Columbiana) - $157,651
- Winona Frozen Foods (Columbiana) - $250,000
- Rob's Horst Packing LLC (Mahoning) - $250,000
- Acme Steak & Seafood Co., Inc (Mahoning) - $249,146
- Jones Processing Inc. (Trumbull) - $71,745
- Mahan Packing Co. Inc. (Trumbull) - $246,199
- Peden's Meats LLC (Trumbull) - $16,920
The grants are part of the second round of funding through the Ohio Meat Processing Grant Program. The amount of funding available through the program increased from $10 million to $25 million after the need for grants was more than expected.
The money will be used to implement processing efficiencies, expand or create facilities, assist in training and improve harvest services.
