STATESBORO, Georgia - Dr. Pat Spurgeon was a key contributor to Coach Jim Tressel and the Penguins in their run of four national championships in the 1990's.

The volunteer assistant passed away at age 92.

Spurgeon was a legend at Georgia Southern University but joined the Penguin program under Tressel.

He then volunteered at Ohio State under Tressel and won another national championship with the Buckeyes.

Spurgeon was known  for ability to scout opponents and relate to players.
