How to fight off boredom during the summer

School's out for summer giving kids much more time at home, and with all that free time comes potential boredom. That's why Cleveland Clinic Pediatrician, Dr. Gina Robinson is offering some tips on how to fight off that boredom.
Dr. Robinson suggests activities such as going to the park, playing on a playground, swimming in a community pool and/or your own and visiting places such as the zoo.
Robinson says getting up and being active within the community can not only be great for a child's health. It can help with socialization too.
The world has been isolated for the past few years due to the pandemic, causing children and adults alike to be isolated in their homes and in turn, spending more time on screens with devices like phones, tablets and televisions.
The American Academy of Pediatrics reports that today's children spend an average of seven hours a day on these devices.
Dr. Robinson says there's always something going on during the summer, so parents should pay attention to social media, as well as word of mouth to be in the loop about upcoming activities for their children.
Another activity Robinson suggests is reading and even pairing that up with some nice exercise beforehand.
"Maybe take a walk to the library to get your books and walk back home so you get some exercise and you get your books at the same time," Robinson said.
Finally, Dr. Robinson suggests parents get involved with their children's fun by being a good role model and spending time with them rather than just sending them off to play on their own.
With all these activities and much more, there are plenty of cures for your child's boredom this summer.
