COLUMBUS, Ohio - OSP has reported a decrease in fatal crashes for their 2022 July Fourth reporting period which ran from July 1 to July 4.

This year, OSP reports 16 people lost their lives in 16 fatal crashes in the state of Ohio during this reporting period compared to the 21 reported fatal crashes from 2021 that claimed the lives of 23 people.

Of those 16 crashes, impairment was determined to be a factor in just four of them. 

Troopers made 444 arrests for OVI and 239 arrests for drug-related charges. OSP responded to 559 crashes and made over 33,000 traffic contacts total. Troopers also provided assistance to nearly 2,600 motorists.

Motorists are encouraged to call 677 to report any impaired drivers or drug activity.
