YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -  Lack of getting new football helmets was an issue for at a handful of high school football teams in the area.

But, through networking and working together all systems are go at the varsity level.

Leetonia football coach John Protopapa says he was short helmets but was able to get a dozen from Austintown Fitch.

"The color of blue is similar to ours so we probably won't have to make any adjustments, " said Protopapa.

The lack of new helmets available goes back to back orders from suppliers and getting them out.

"We went scrambling  and reached out to other schools  and everyone was in the same boat," said Boardman Athletic Administrator Marco Marinucci.

"At one point we were 21 helmets short, so we went to the middle school, and in turn they went down to the little Spartans and got helmets from them." he added.

Because they weren't sure of sizes and a timetable, Marinucci postponed the first junior high game so players can adjust.

"I just ask coaches and everyone to be patient, as the distributors do with me."
