Learn how where you can place a sports bet at kiosks next year in the Valley

The Ohio Casino Control Commission announced Thursday, Aug. 18, the sports betting kiosk locations in the Valley. Sports betting at kiosks are set to begin in Ohio on Jan. 1.
The commission approved several Valley businesses which sought a Type C sports betting license for businesses with a liquor permit that want to have a kiosk, either self-service or clerk-operated, where bets can be made.

How it works
Anyone over the age of 21 years old can bet at any of the sports betting kiosks in the state by swiping his or her driver's license, which keeps track of the amounts bet per person, which is limited to $700 per week per person.
Types of bets
At a sports betting kiosk, there will be four types of bets that can be played:
- Point Spread: Wager placed on the margin of the winner in a game bet on.
- Moneyline: Betting on the winner
- Parlay: Combining multiple wagers into one bet by rolling over the winnings from one wager into another wager
- Over/Under: Betting on points scored by both teams
Payment
Payouts for sports betting winners are limited to $599 to facilities to pay at the betting location, and kiosk can set their own limits as well. Any winnings greater than $599 can be paid at state-run racinos, including Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course and the Ohio Regional lottery office located at 242 Federal Plaza West in Youngstown, or with cash, credit card, debit card, or electronic payment accounts like PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
But while betting appears simple, the process to get these kiosks up is far from it.
Each bar and restaurant must contract with a vendor that supplies the kiosks for the facility. These vendors install and maintain the machines, but before any of that can happen, the vendor must obtain a license. The Ohio Casino Commission says the earliest licenses won't be approved until fall.
A spokesperson from the Ohio Lottery tells me it's paramount these vendors supply additional cash options for winnings, including debit, credit, vouchers by mail, or by player account.
