The Canfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a three-vehicle traffic crash where one person was killed Wednesday morning.

The man killed in the crash has been identified as Daniel Harvischak, age 65, of Youngstown.

The crash occurred this morning at 6:35 am on Tippecanoe Road, just south of US Route 62.

According to the police report, Waylynn Ward, 25, was driving a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee southbound on Tippecanoe Road. Harvischak was driving a 2022 Mazda 3, both heading side-by-side in the southbound lanes of Tippecanoe and US Route 62.

Tippecanoe is a two-lane road that merges into one lane just after crossing over US Route 62.

According to the report, both vehicles proceeded through the intersection heading south at a high rate of speed. As the right lane merged into a single southbound lane, Ward's car veered into the northbound lane. As the two vehicles topped a hillcrest, they struck an oncoming vehicle head-on.

All three vehicles traveled off the east side of the road. Ward and Harvischak's vehicle became engulfed in flames. Ward and her son were able to escape their vehicle.

Stephen Corll, age 40, of Youngstown, who was hit head-on in the northbound lane, was driving a 2016 Lincoln MKX. Corll was transported to the hospital and is listed in stable condition.

Aggressive driving is a contributing factor in this crash.

Ward and her son, Elias Salinas, age 2, were transported to the hospital and are listed in stable condition.

Corll is the Niles Schools Resource Officer. The Niles City  School district told 21 News, "Our hearts go out to Officer Corll, his family, and the other families affected by today's accident. He is a familiar face in the district and is well-liked by students and staff. We are thankful he is ok and wish him, and all those affected a fast recovery."

Harvischak was pronounced dead at the scene.
