Why all playoff football games on Friday for first two rounds
High school football fans will get to watch only one playoff game for the first two rounds of the playoffs.
The OHSAA decided to put the first two weeks all on Friday, to stay with continuity from the regular season, according to spokesperson Tim Stried.
"For quite a few years, Divisions I, II and III have played on Friday nights during the football playoffs, and the other divisions have rotated between Friday and Saturday. Over the last couple years, many coaches and school administrators across the state from the smaller divisions have requested that the OHSAA place their division on Friday nights as often as possible, as their school and community is used to playing on Friday night and they prefer playing on Friday night. Recently, that request has been so strong that the OHSAA decided to put all divisions on Friday night for the first two rounds. Fortunately, we still have enough officiating crews to do that. We will evaluate the playoff format after the season to determine if more rounds of the playoffs will also be exclusively on Friday nights."
Beginning with the third round Divisions I, II, III & V are Friday with Divisions IV, VI, & VII on Saturday.
