NORTH JACKSON, Ohio - The U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration (EDA) is considering a request for federal assistance in a Mahoning County road project.

According to the release, the EDA is considering the request to build the Mahoning Avenue Industrial Corridor Project in North Jackson. The project would upgrade parts of Mahoning Avenue and reconstruct Rosemont Road.

The work on Mahoning Avenue would include overlaying the 2.5 mile corridor with superpave asphalt, reconstruction of the aggregate shoulders and guardrail, sign and pavement marking replacements.

Additional work is planned for Mahoning Avenue's intersection with Bailey Road including drainage improvements, road widening and a new ADA pedestrian crosswalk.

Drainage improvements are also planned for the intersection of Mahoning and Rosemont along with the reconstruction of Mahoning Avenue Bridge number 23.

The release says the many improvements are needed because the corridor is one of the most used industrial corridors in Mahoning County. Businesses in the corridor employ about 2,500 people.

Project information is available for review at the Mahoning County Engineer's Office on Bears Den Road in Youngstown.
