Open enrollment for Affordable Care Act plans opens Tuesday, November 1, a time when consumers can enroll in an Affordable Care Act (ACA) health plan.

Open enrollment for ACA plans goes from Nov. 1, 2022, and ends Jan. 15, 2023, in most states.

  • November 1, 2022: Open Enrollment starts — the first day you can enroll in or change a 2023 health plan through the Health Insurance Marketplace. Coverage can start January 1.
  • December 15, 2022: Last day to enroll in or change plans for coverage to start January 1.
  • January 1, 2023: 2023 coverage starts for those who enroll in or change plans by December 15, 2022.
  • January 15, 2023: Last day to enroll in or change a 2023 health plan. After this date, you can enroll in or change plans only if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.
  • February 1, 2023: 2023 coverage starts for those who enroll in or change plans December 16, 2022 through January 15, 2023.

People have been able to purchase personal health insurance coverage since 2010.

Only 8% of Americans were without health insurance as of August, an all-time low, according to the Department of Health and Human Services.
