1997: Columbiana County will receive more than $47,000 in 1998 in federal funds targeted for Appalachia for emergency food and shelter aid to county residents.
Beaver Township farmer Wayne Falb says the corn harvest in the area was about 30 percent below the average and two weeks later than normal because of an early snow.
Ohio's Democratic lawmakers say kids living in communities where parents are less educated than average need additional support, and they are proposing increased funding for schools in those communities, which would include Youngstown and six other school districts in Mahoning County and Warren and six other districts in Trumbull County.
1982: Hunting licenses in Ohio are up by more than 20 percent on the eve of deer-hunting season, swelled by recession-idled workers.

1947: Mickey Schuster, 29, of E. Boston Ave., Youngstown, eats his first Thanksgiving dinner since his throat was destroyed by lye swallowed when he was a toddler. Surgeons at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh reconstructed his throat in four operations.
John Vitullo, chairman of the Mahoning County Democratic Party, is in North Side Hospital after suffering a heart attack.
Thousands of Youngstowners attend Thanksgiving services at area Protestant and Catholic churches and Jewish synagogues before going home to enjoy their holiday feasts -- despite soaring prices for the meal.
