POLICE: Youngstown man accused of shooting woman vandalizing car
A Youngstown man is behind bars after police say he shot a woman who was vandalizing a car.
Police responded to a home in the 300 Block of Edwards Avenue shortly after 2:00 a.m. Wednesday after receiving reports of shots fired in the area.
Around the same time, police were also dispatched to the Saint Elizabeth's Hospital after a female victim called telling police she had been shot and was driving herself there.
Police spoke with a resident who told them she had heard gunshots and they sounded like they were coming from directly below her. When asked if she was home alone, the woman told police her grandson was also in the home.
Police spoke to the woman's grandson, identified as 21-year-old Leland Love who told police that he was the one who fired the shots in response to a woman who was vandalizing his grandmother's car.
Love told police he held the firearm out of a bedroom window at the woman.
Police seized the firearm, identified as a Glock 19, as well as five spent shell casings found outside the home and one live round found in the driveway.
Love was placed under arrest for Felonious Assault. Love's grandmother told police that she wanted to press charges against the woman who had vandalized the car.
Police observed two slashed tires and multiple scratch marks and dents in the vehicle.
At the hospital, police met with the female victim who told officers she was Love's boyfriend and she was at the house to talk to him after she caught him cheating on her.
The victim went on to tell police when she called Love to let him know she was there, he came up to the window and began shooting at her while she was still in her car.
Police say the victim then got out of the car and Love continued to shoot at her until she got back into the car to call police and go to the hospital.
Police observed a bullet wound on the victim's left leg and a graze wound on her right forearm. Police also observed multiple bullet holes on the victim's vehicle.
At this point, it is unknown if the female victim will face charges for allegedly vandalizing the car.
