AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - A Niles man was arrested in Austintown early Saturday morning after police found his vehicle stuck near a truck parts shop.

Police received a call shortly before 3:30 a.m. Saturday from a male, later identified as 23-year-old Montana Smith of Niles stating that his car was stuck in the snow.

Police were led to Seventy-Six Drive where officer observed a blue Buick LeSabre in a ditch near Fyda Freightliner. Police observed tire trails in the grass suggesting that the vehicle traveled off the road until becoming stuck.

Police made contact with Smith and asked him if he had been drinking. Police say Smith told officers he had been drinking but was unsure of how much.

Police also observed a handgun holster in the back of the vehicle and Smith told police he had a Glock 45 in the center console. Police located the weapon and seized it.

Smith was then asked to take standard field sobriety tests. Police say during the tests, Smith repeatedly lost his balance multiple times.

Smith was placed under arrest for OVI and was released the same day. Jail records show one charge of Using Weapons While Intoxicated.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday, January 18 at 8:30 a.m. in the Austintown Municipal Court.
