YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A local organization lead demonstrations in Youngstown Thursday afternoon following the death of 29-year-old Tyre Nichols.

Nichols died in January after being severely beaten by five Memphis police officers during a traffic stop.

ACTION representatives gathered in front of the Youngstown Police Department, leading demonstrations.

They said something needs to be done to stop similar incidents from happening again.

"We want to make sure police reform is done and we want the George Floyd Police Reform Act back on the ballot. We understand a lot of the legislation is not local but we want to start the process," one organizer told 21 News.

The group said they support police reform on a national level, making police departments responsible for their own officers.
