The Salem Regional Medical Center is open once again after being temporarily locked down Wednesday morning.

According to Salem Regional PR and Marketing Director, Michael Santillo, tells 21 News that the Salem Police Department had advised facility staff of a potential threat to the building at around 10:00 a.m.

"We take all threats seriously so out of an abundance of caution, we enacted our internal procedures to ensure the safety of our patients and staff," Santillo said.

Santillo says the threat was unsubstantiated, and the building was reopened within one hour.

It is unclear what the nature of the threat was.
