HUBBARD, Ohio - Hubbard Mayor, Ben Kyle organized a meeting Thursday afternoon to discuss safety measures in case a similar incident to the East Palestine train derailment occurs in the area.

The mayor invited Liberty Township Fire Chief, Doug Theobald, Eagle Joint Fire District Chief, Ron Stanish, Eagle Joint Fire District Captain, Steve Mauch, Hubbard City Safety Director, Bill Bancroft, Trumbull County EMA Director, John Hickey and Hubbard Township trustees to Hubbard City Hall to discuss how to handle a potential train derailment situation.

Mayor Kyle tells 21 News he invited the Liberty Township fire chief because Norfolk Southern runs through both neighboring communities.

The mayor says the meeting went well and was simply to make sure everyone was on the same page in the event of a tragedy such as the one the occurred in East Palestine.

This includes making sure everyone had each other's contact information and are on the same page regarding requesting additional help from neighboring communities in the event of a disaster.
