Private well sampling finds no contaminants linked to East Palestine train derailment

Officials continue to keep a close eye on private water systems in East Palestine following the Norfolk Southern train derailment in the area.
To date, 178 private water systems have been sampled. Of those sampled, 113 have been verified and none have shown any harmful contaminant levels associated with the derailment.
The Ohio Department of Health and Columbiana County Health District received verified results from 14 samples Wednesday.
Eight of the 14 private wells showed no detectable contaminants and six showed trace detections well below safe drinking water standards. There's no evidence that the trace detections are linked to the train derailment.
