Niles issues emergency limb and branch collection, here's what to do

NILES, Ohio - High winds ravaged the Mahoning Valley over the weekend with tree branches and limbs scattered throughout roads and yards. That's why the City of Niles has issued an emergency limb and branch collection on Monday.
In accordance with a city ordinance, residents of Niles must schedule the emergency collection between Monday, March 27 and Friday March 31. Residents can schedule an appointment by calling 330-544-9000 extension 1103.
Residents must place the limbs and branches at the curb and follow these guidelines:
- Limb/Branch collection shall only occur at residential property
- Limbs/Branches should be at least four feet in length with a maximum of eight feet and not exceed a maximum diameter of six inches
- Limbs/Branches less than four feet in length and a max diameter of three inches should be bundled and disposed up during normal residential curbside trash pickup
- Limbs/Branches should be piled within three feet of the curb line or driveway approach
- Limb-Branch piles should be placed neatly with the cut or broke ends pointed towards the street
- The city will not dispose of roots, shrubs, vines, honeysuckle, firewood, boards or lumber
- The city will not access private property with equipment and employees to dispose of limbs/branches.
- Limbs/Branches should not be piled near mailboxes, fire hydrants or parked cars
- The city will not leave mulch at residences
