NEW CASTLE, Pa. -  The bark of a K-9 convinced an attempted murder suspect to surrender to officers, according to New Castle Police investigators.

Police investigating the multiple stabbing of a 30-year-old man in the Big Run Housing Complex on Monday say the suspect ran into the basement of a partially collapsed building near Long Avenue and Reynolds Street.

Police and deputies surrounded the building, but said the suspect didn’t come out until he heard the bark of the police department’s K9 that officers were threatening to send in.

Detectives say the suspect, 24-year-old Dewayne Banbury of Lorain, Ohio admitted holding a knife during a fight with the victim.

Banbury was arraigned Tuesday on charges of attempted homicide and aggravated assault.

As of Wednesday, Banbury remained held in the Lawrence County Prison on a $250,000 bond awaiting another court hearing on April 19.

Police have not provided information about the condition of the victim
