$50K bail set for school secretary accused of pocketing Sharpsville student funds

Bail has been set at $50,000 for a Sharpsville Area School District secretary accused of pocketing $2,658 in cash in student funds.
Darlene Cheney, 54, West Middlesex was arraigned before a District Court Magistrate Wednesday on charges of receiving stolen property, theft, and multiple counts of tampering with records.
According to a complaint filed by the Sharpsville Police Department, Cheney is accused of faking invoices on cash received between September and December for school guidance testing, a school-wide account, and for the Middle School’s eighth-grade class trip to Gettysburg.
21 News has reached out to Sharpsville Superintendent John Vannoy for information on Cheney’s employment status. As of late Wednesday morning, we have not received a response.
Cheney is scheduled to appear before the magistrate again on April 21.
