Hermitage man going on trial for murder of Hickory football standout

HERMITAGE, Pa. - A Hermitage man faces a trial for the murder of former standout Hickory athlete Charles Carr.
A charge of criminal homicide filed against 27-year-old Zechariah Sewell was held for Common Pleas Court following a hearing before a district magistrate on Wednesday.
Authorities say Sewell shot Carr in the chest at his Shadyside Drive home after the two argued on March 21.
Carr's father told police that Sewell was recorded by the home's security camera.
Witnesses told police that during an argument outside the home, Sewell pulled a gun from his waistband and shot Carr several times before driving away.
Police provided first aid until an ambulance could take Carr to Sharon Regional Hospital where the Hermitage man was pronounced dead.
As of Wednesday, Sewell remained in the Mercer County Jail held on a $1 million bond.
He is scheduled to appear before Mercer County Common Pleas Judge Neil McEwen for an arraignment on June 27.
One of Carr’s former coaches described his performance on the field as “legendary”.
