Train traffic to begin moving in both directions again in East Palestine

EAST PALESTINE, Ohio - The U.S. EPA has released an update on the ongoing cleanup efforts around the East Palestine train derailment.
According to the release, the excavation process at Pleasant Drive near the northern track crossing will finish this week and train traffic will start moving on both the northern and southern tracks at very low speeds this weekend.
Next week, however, the southern track will close again for more excavations.
The EPA and Norfolk Southern continue to monitor the air around the work zone.
As of June 15, 71,595 tons of solid waste and 20,685,021 gallons of liquid waste have been moved from the derailment area. 663 private well samples have also been conducted.
In the next week, a Public Health Resource Information Session will be held on June 20 from 6 to 7 p.m. at 109 Rebecca Street in East Palestine.
