Communities celebrate Juneteenth in Hermitage.
Communities are coming together in Hermitage, PA at Buhl Park to celebrate Juneteenth.
A significant milestone in American history that symbolizes the end of slavery and the beginning of freedom when 250,000 Black Americans in Galveston, Texas learned they were finally free.
Although the holiday's roots are in Texas, Juneteenth has become a day to celebrate freedom all over the United States.
Juneteenth organizer in Hermitage, La'Kisha Harrison says this year's theme is "Breaking the Chains Within the Community."
This year's celebration will include horseback riding, dunk booths, Jada's children corner, haircuts, national and local performers, games, raffles, various vendors, food trucks and more.
"This is a day that we celebrate for freedom, for what has happened in the past. But we're from the past and we're trying to make it to the future," Harrison told 21 News.
On June 19, 2021 President Joseph Biden recognized Juneteenth as a federal holiday.
The celebration is from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and is located at Buhl Park in shelter 4 at 715 Hazen Rd.
