Results of speed study conducted on Austintown roadway released

Austintown Police Chief, Bob Gavalier has released the results of a study conducted over a five-day period back in May.
21 News obtained a copy of this study, which was conducted between May 24 and 28 at 130, Fitch Boulevard.
According to the study, a total of 18,417 vehicles were analyzed including 6,825 passenger cars, 259 motorcycles, 1,717 single-unit trucks, 48 multi-unit trucks, 9,465 light trucks and vans and 103 buses.
The speed limit in the studied area is 25 miles per hour and the enforcement tolerance was five miles over the speed limit, meaning the speed limit was only enforced if a car was going over 30 miles per hour.
According to the study, 30% of the people driving through the enforcement area drove over five miles over the limit indicating a "medium" enforcement rating. The average speed was 28 miles per hour.
Austintown Trustee Robert Santos told 21 News there were just a few vehicles traveling over 50 miles per hour.
